My Picks from the Orly Surreal Collection: Purple Poodle, Angel Rain, and Digital Glitter

Heya!  I've got my picks from Orly's Surreal Collection for you guys today!

Purple Poodle is a deep magenta jelly filled with blue, pink, and purple glitter and shimmer.  I think there may also be some blue iridescent flakies, but I'm not entirely sure.  This feels like prom night in a bottle to me...young, bright, and funky!  The formula was fine and dry time was average.  I did experience some bubbling, but that may have been due to other factors.  I used two coats, but three is probably best.

Angel Rain is a blue/purple/green multichrome polish.  The finish is pretty frosty and you have to be careful when applying it, or else you'll get very visible brush strokes.  The formula was nice, but it's very sheer and takes 3-4 coats to reach full opacity.  Layering it over black produces a much stronger multichrome effect, but you lose the whole heavenly blue situation.  Dry time was average.  As you can see, I experienced bubbling with this one as well, though that may have been due to other factors.

***The polish is thick on these nails because I dented a couple and fixed it by adding polish, and because I just put the black on over the existing coats of Angel Rain***

L-R: 4 coats, 3 coats, 2 coats, 2 coats

L-R: 4 coats, 3 coats, 2 coats, 2 coats

Left=3 coats Angel Rain, Right=1 coat Angel Rain over black

Digital Glitter is a mix of silver square glitter, pink shimmer, and gunmetal, holographic, and red hex glitter.  This is a very strange mix of glitters!  It would probably look nice over gold, bronze, or dark blue, but I layered it over a light pink (Orly Lift the Veil) so you could actually see the glitter.    The formula was good and dry time was fast.  I used one coat of Digital Glitter over three coats of Lift the Veil.

***The polish is thick on these nails because Lift the Veil kind of sucks and pools along the edges***

Overall, the Surreal collection is kind of a disappointment.  I wouldn't consider any of them to be must-haves.  What do you think?

Orly costs around $7 for 18mL at stores like Ulta and Sally Beauty.  You can stay up-to-date on the latest Orly news by Liking the brand's Facebook page.

  1. Thanks for letting us know your thoughts on this collection. The two first colors aren't my cup of tea but I like the glitter :)

    1. You're welcome! Yeah, it's a really odd collection...almost feels outdated somehow.

  2. I really like Purple Poodle, but Angel Rain is just too frosty. It's a shame because it's such a gorgeous color. It's kind of like an opaque version of Models Own Indian Ocean. Thanks for swatches, I haven't seen these yet.

    1. Yep, I feel the same way. I've been meaning to compare Angel Rain and Indian Ocean, but I'm sooo not in the mood to deal with fussy frosts again lol.
