Nail Art and a Giveaway: The Ronan Thompson Foundation

I actually started writing this post months ago, and this idea has been in the works since February.  Back then, I thought I'd be the only blog addressing the issue of childhood cancer awareness this September...since, you know, this is one of those things no one likes to think about.  However, the recent passing of beloved beauty guru Talia Castellano forced the beauty community to take a good, hard look at childhood cancer, and many mobilized to raise money for charity.  I hope that these movements will carry on into autumn and beyond, and that they will help give Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September) its time in the spotlight.

I was first made aware of the horrors of childhood cancer last year during the Stand Up to Cancer telethon.  During the broadcast, Taylor Swift performed a hauntingly beautiful song called "Ronan," named after a beautiful little boy who died from neuroblastoma just days before his fourth birthday, and less than a year after being diagnosed.  Taylor had been following his story for quite some time, after discovering the blog written by Ronan's mother, Maya Thompson.  Though Taylor wrote the song on her own, Maya is credited as a co-writer because it was all those heartbreaking details in the blog that inspired the lyrics to the song.  "Ronan" is available on iTunes, and all proceeds go towards cancer research.

Ronan is available for purchase here (US-only) or here (international)

This is my "Ronan"-inspired manicure:

I remember your bare feet down the hallway
I remember your little laugh
race cars on the kitchen floor, plastic dinosaurs
I love you to the moon and back

Since losing her beautiful son, Maya Thompson has dedicated her life to fighting for increased funding for childhood cancer research.  She created The Ronan Thompson Foundation to honor her brave little boy, in the hope that someday, no child will ever have to suffer the horrors of childhood cancer.  Donations to The Ronan Thompson Foundation allow some of the best oncologists in the world to conduct ground-breaking research which will hopefully lead to a cure for neuroblastoma and other forms of pediatric cancer.  The Foundation also hopes to create a "World Class Neuroblastoma Research and Care Center."

If you donate to The Ronan Thompson Foundation, you could win this special Indigo Bananas polish called "For Ronan."  You can only get this polish by winning this giveaway.
