Divergent 7-Piece Nail Art Kit Review

I'm just going to come right out and say that I do not recommend this kit.  Even if you like Divergent and just want to own Divergent nail stuff, just...don't buy it.  If you still want to see swatches and such anyway, continue reading!

At first glance, the kit looks promising.  The box design is super cool and the Nail Water-Transfer Tattoos look like they could be fun.

The fun stops once you actually try to use any of it.  I swatched these on three fingers because the bottles are tiny (0.285 oz).  They are all streaky, prone to bubbling, and the solid colors take 2-3 coats to reach full opacity.

Neutral Lace is just a beige nude creme.

Violet Abnegation is a slightly violet-toned dark gray creme

Midnight Calm is technically a very dark blue but it appears black.

And now, the special effect toppers.  All are one coat shown without top coat because I just wanted to do a quickie swatch.

Opal Compassion is a shifty taupe/purple shimmer.  Very streaky.

True Pearl is an ocean green shimmer.  This one is also quite streaky and requires either two coats or one very thick coat to look okay.

Evolve features tiny pink and green glassfleck sparks in a clear base.  It's pretty, but subtle.

The Nail Water-Transfer Tattoos sucked.  The instructions make it look easy (you apply it the same way that you would apply a temporary tattoo to your skin), but it's very hard to transfer a design that covers your entire nail, especially when the tattoo is super thin and disintegrates at the slightest touch.  You also have to apply the tattoo over a nude or light-colored polish because they are see-through.

I didn't even bother taking a nice photo of this mess.  I just used my iPod.  This was actually my second attempt at using the tattoos.  No matter how careful I was, the tattoo would wrinkle, tear, and/or disintegrate.

If for some strange reason you still want to buy this limited edition kit, it's available at Sephora for $27.50.

Indigo Bananas: Hallucinate

Hey folks!  Indigo Bananas is having a sale this weekend (use code 20BANANAS now through 4/20/2014 for 20% off your order at the brand's new online store!), so I figured I'd show you one of their funky green holos!

Hallucinate is a multichrome linear holographic polish that shifts from green to copper.  It also features bright green shimmer!  For the most part, it appears green, but at some angles and in some listing situations, you'll notice a light copper shift.  I had trouble getting the linear holographic effect to show up well in photos, but it's very evident in person!  The formula was great.  For full opacity and a strong linear holo effect, use three thin coats.  I found the dry time to be a bit slow, but that may have just been due to environmental issues (everything I swatched that day seemed to dry slowly).

Indigo Bananas: A Star to Sail By

Hey folks!  I'm very glad that I took a lot of swatch pics before I got sick because I've only had the energy to do 2 manis since I got home from the hospital.  I wore the polish featured in this post about a month ago and loved it so much that I wore it again on St. Patrick's Day!  Due to the size of my collection, I pretty much never wear anything twice, so I must REALLY love this one!

Indigo Bananas A Star to Sail By is described as "a complex mix of multiple gold flakes, pink flakes, pink to gold flakes, microshimmers and holo microshimmer, with the bulk of it being a real silver metal flake which is extra shiny" in a rose-tinged base.  It sort of looks like a very pale type of rose gold.  This polish is extremely shiny with a mirror-like finish and flashes of holo sparkle.  The formula is great and the flakes sit flat on the nail.  It takes two to three coats to reach full opacity.  While you can see gaps in my photos due to the extreme closeup, these gaps were not visible in person.

By the way, if you're looking for something just as shiny but silver in tone, be sure to check out my review of Indigo Bananas Moonlight (clair de lune)!

ALIQUID Lacquer: Ginger Rose Lip Balm

Product received for review

Heyyyyyy, everyone.  I hope you all had a less eventful week than I did!  My gallbladder suddenly became infected (and even became gangrenous), so I had to be hospitalized and have surgery for the first time.  Between the pain, the pain meds, the drowsiness, etc., I'm not entirely "with it" and don't feel like doing much, so I'm just going to attempt a quick lip balm review for today.

ALIQUID Lacquer Ginger Rose Lip Balm is a new scent in ALIQUID's lip balm lineup.  This is a very unusual scent, a bit like potpourri with an exotic flair.  I don't think it's for everyone, but if you're into, say, drinking floral teas or eating the rose hips out of your rabbit's dried flower treats (like me...don't judge! :-p), you'll probably enjoy this scent.  It's not flavored, but you may feel almost like you can taste it.  The balm is very firm, but melts easily onto the lips, providing great moisture!

(Please forgive the lack of additional photos...the wind blew the balm off my deck right after this photo was taken and I decided to quit trying for photos before I lost it to the wind, haha)

Materials: mango butter, beeswax, apricot kernel oil, olive oil, fragrance.  Ingredients produced in a facility that processes nut products.

Each tube contains about 4 grams of product.  You can buy one tube of balm for $2 or three tubes for $5 at the brand's Etsy shop.  It is also available in Mint Citrus, Lavender Honey, Chai, and Vanilla scents!  Be sure to keep up with the latest ALIQUID Lacquer releases by Liking the brand on Facebook and signing up for the brand's newsletter.
